About Stephen Spry (admin)
Currently I run a network of around twenty different web sites generating in excess of 250,000 visits every month. Three of these have existed for over 10 years, the first and still the busiest was launched in 1995.
Originally used to promote my talents as a web developer, in 2007 these web sites now have the express purpose of earning me an income from:
- displaying Google Adsense advertisements, and
- referring people to appropriate “recommended” affiliate products
- the sale of “featured” spots in my various directories, along with
- direct text based links to client sites, and also
- showcasing my web development skills
Note that - apart from my web design abilities and some smaller “advertising” services (#3, #4 and #5 above) - I do NOT currently have a real “product” of my own which I offer for sale. Note : I really don’t count these as “products” because they contribute only a small percentage to my income.
But maybe it’s about time I DID actually have a real “product” or two of my own… because it’s getting harder and harder to keep making a living from the Internet, let alone build a “business” on the Internet… and that’s one reason why I recently launched this site - http://www.netmarketingtoolbox.com.
Not only does it contain a collection of “products”, it also helps people who are getting confused by the minefield of often conflicting information about Internet Marketing.
But I digress…
Since there’s NEVER been anything much in my budget to spend on any sort of paid advertising, I have always relied heavily on organic (or free) listings in the search engines to drive traffic to my sites.
Organic listings are those pages that are picked up by search engine robots/spiders and included, free of charge, in the search engine’s index – e.g. Google, Yahoo, MSN Live. My placement in these results when people carry out searches there depends on the keywords used on my pages.
While organic search has been relatively successful for me - I DO have lots of good results for some very competitive keywords - lately it has become increasingly harder to generate traffic to my sites.
Recently I’ve been struggling to maintain the levels of traffic previously sent from the major search engines.
My initial reaction has been to keep adding literally thousands of new pages to my existing sites - but NOT those spammy “keyword” type pages you see everywhere - and also develop a whole range of new sites covering many niche topics.
Despite this ongoing development of new content, my traffic levels STILL fluctuate enormously, and never seem to get past a certain point.
So my objective for 2007 is…
Find out how to take my sites (new and existing) to the “next” level…
