New, Relevant Content = Traffic
If 80%+ of traffic arrives at your site from major search engines, then a sound approach to increasing traffic is to keep building new and relevant content on your web site.
Add extra pages. Update the old ones. Create a blog. Add your own RSS feeds. Use other people’s feeds. Add lots of content that offers even more value to your visitors!
Give your visitors what they want, and you will be rewarded (eventually).
All this great, fresh content not only enhances your online credibility, and encourages your visitors to keep coming back to see what’s new… It ALSO has the same effect on the search engines!
And that means MORE organic listings - more of YOUR “needles in the search engine hay-stack”!
I call visitors who arrive at all of these extra pages “back-door traffic”.
Others call it “long tail marketing” because many different pages allow you to focus on a wide range of different (but still relevant) keywords to attract attention.
Whatever you want to call it, you WILL get a lot of visitors arriving at your site on these pages.
As your site becomes more established, probably around 10% (or less) of visitors will arrive at your site through your home page.
So make sure all your “back-door” pages have an obvious call to action on them, along with simple site navigation to encourage your new visitors to explore more, or the 90% will just leave - in an instant!
