Call Me Picky, But…

posted in Copywriting, Strategies |

Yeah - I know - I AM picky… and overly critical - and expect too much at times - and etc. etc. etc.

After publishing the previous post - how some marketers make it hard for their potential “new” customers - I decided I should censor myself somewhat… and explain why I find such things to be a big problem.

Anyone marketing on the Internet has to realise there are literally THOUSANDS of other people doing roughly the same sort of thing that you are doing.

And in the process of trying to attract new customers to your business, if you put ANY barrier in their way… they will leave you - simple as that!

Barriers such as bad links, missing images, jumping through hoops as described in the previous post. But to that list I’d like to add a couple more things that I personally notice, which diminishes credibility in just a matter of milliseconds.

First up - spelling mistakes If you can’t be bothered to take the time to spell check your material, and I see a FEW seplling mistakes creep through, then that’s one little red flag that starts waving…

Ooops… there’s a typo in the previous paragraph, so if there’s only one or two of those, I’ll be forgiving. And I won’t complain when I see US vs UK versions of words such as organize and organise… And with a lot of ESL (English as a Second Language) marketers out there, I’ll allow them a little bit of leeway on that score.

But when I see a typo in a major heading e.g. “Welocme To The Gold Members Area Preview” on a page which is supposed to up-sell me… well sorry, that says maybe I should question any future relationship with you! Just too sloppy!

I recently sat through what was an absolutely brilliant online presentation for a product I WON’T mention by name (except to say it’s an under $10 “solution”). The step by step presentation was very slick, included audio which added to the material with a very pleasant/convincing voice…

In fact, I jumped through all their hoops for several hours, listening to the various presentations… and then got to the CRUNCH line… Now the final audio file said that one of the biggest hurdles to take part in this type of program in the past was price… but this scheme would suit anyone at just $15.

Yep - that’s something I could afford to lose if it didn’t work…

Except nowhere on the sign-up page could I see any option under $130… Needless to say, my support ticket about the issue is still unanswered.

Yeah - call me picky…

But if you want some of my limited supply of money, then you gotta work for it!
