Avoiding Web Hosting Crises
The very recent failure of the “lifetime” web hosting package being promoted by a well known Internet Marketer should start some warning bells ringing. I just have to ask why would anyone sign up for a lifetime plan which has only a one-off fee?
What IS the definition of “lifetime”? (It’s a rhetorical question… no answer here - just asked to make you think about it!)
As much as we might want it to be, web hosting is not something you can set and forget. And it’s not something you can get for nothing - or next to it. Remember… if you pay peanuts, what type of monkeys are you going to get?
But no matter WHO you use for hosting, you just have to ask yourself…
Are You Ready To Move Your Web Site Unexpectedly?
I’ve had to move too many web sites from one hosting company to another (and another… and another) over the years for all sorts of reasons… price increases, growing traffic requirements, server stuffups, suspensions, corporate takeovers, changing security measures, etc.
And to be totally blunt - it’s a pain in the @#$!
But since I (now) use cPanel servers, I find life a little better! The ease with which you can backup your sites from your cPanel is amazing.
The problem is…
YOU have to schedule time on a regular basis to DO the backups.
And once you have quite a few sites going, and maybe split over several hosting companies… that can become quite a chore which is easy to ignore/forget.
With devastating results if you DO forget!
Unfortunately, there WAS a product I used to link to which did an automated backup of all your cPanel stuff… except he moved, and that’s that!
