Structure: Your Foundation to Success
Imagine for a moment you’ve commissioned an architect to design your dream home…
An architect asks lots of questions about what you want, and where you want it. A good architect will also ask about what you might like to do in the future. This way, any plans can incorporate possible extensions without creating a nightmare later on.
The architect then moves onto drawing up the plans… designs which underpin the whole structure of the house. Without them, it can’t be built with the features you want.
Apply this same analogy to designing a new web site. Put in the hard yards at the start, and concentrate on setting up a structure that will work. As the site grows, you can easily extend it in new directions. Look closely at the category structure you need, to design whole-of-site navigation that makes life easier for your visitors, and allows you to add new sections later without messing up the existing site.
Now… extend the analogy to look at how other aspects of your business are structured (and no - this is NOT an item about the importance of business planning, although it could be)…
Today you can immediately restructure one aspect of your business that’s easily overlooked by almost everyone… and save a tremendous amount of time once you do it.
Once you eliminate this barrier, success in Internet Marketing is a little more achievable!
Most people in business online spend an extraordinary amount of time doing “research” - looking for and downloading all sorts of stuff that might be relevant to their niche.
It’s in the nature of our lives that we accumulate dozens, hundreds – even thousands of downloads over time. Products we’ve bought, bonuses we’ve been given by the truckload, resell rights packages we’ve acquired on the way… Our store of downloads just grows and grows and grows.
Each of us makes a brave attempt to find ways to structure all of this information… Very quickly we find that whatever organizational scheme we come up with, a lot of stuff never seems to fit.
And so our gigabytes of downloads end up in chaos. The result?
- We can’t find things that we KNOW we’ve got.
We spend hours and hours searching for that eBook, script or tool that we definitely remember downloading months ago. We need it urgently, right now, but can we find it? Can we just!
- We forget 80-95% of what we’ve got.
So we end up buying products that we don’t need. We already have something that fits our need, but we just don’t remember, and have no way of checking (unless we take a few days off!). So we waste money buying another product.
Even worse – we end up buying the same product twice! That happens more often than you’d think, believe me.
So what’s the answer to this? No-one wants to spend the time figuring out how to solve this problem. We need to spend our time on productive work.
Fortunately, one of the leading experts in the field of Knowledge Management has done two things to crack this difficult problem.
Firstly, he’s worked out a detailed “taxonomy” of internet marketing. That means, he’s identified all the topics that make up internet marketing, and figured out how they relate to each other.
Secondly, he’s organized these into a Mind Map (the IM Index Mind Map) and used that as a visual interface onto a folder structure for holding all internet marketing downloads.
To understand what I mean, grab your FREE copy of The Expert Guide To Organizing Your Internet Marketing Information (email not needed - just click for instant download).
It’s written by knowledge management expert Alex Goodall, who’s calling himself the “Internet Marketing Knowledge Manager”.
He’s caused quite a stir with this simple, but very powerful idea, and I’m looking forward to seeing where he goes next.
Alex’s Guide takes you step-by-step through the process of designing and building your own “taxonomy” and file structure to organize and manage your internet marketing downloads and other information - like a true professional.
It explains the key design ideas behind his revolutionary IM Index Mind Map - and how you can copy them for your own system.
Here’s your free download link again… or jump straight to the chase and visit Alex’s site (sign up for his free “IM Organized! Coaching Emails” when you get there) and check out the videos of how the mind-map system works!
I just wish I had this information months ago!!!
