Internet Marketing Survey - The Results Are In

posted in Free Downloads |

David Cheyne recently conducted a simple four question survey about Internet Marketing, and got over 1000 results inside of 24 hours! Not bad eh!

Go check out the full results for yourself… you can download the excel file here

I found a few interesting things worthy of comment…

  • David had a good range of responses - 40% were newbies (people new to IM) while 60% have been in IM for longer than a year… and 30% longer than three years…

  • that makes it VERY interesting to note the responses to the INCOME question… considering how many “veterans” responded, it was a little disheartening to see that 96% are earning less than $1500 a month from their efforts (and almost half of those earning diddly squat!).

With only 4% earning in excess of $1500 a month, obviously (tongue in cheek here) David didn’t have any of the multi-million dollar gurus respond to this survey… Or maybe there isn’t really any such animal???

Is it possible for the “normal” person to earn a realistic, chuck-in-your-day-job income from IM? From these results, it seems unlikely!

  • By definition, “part-time” employment is less than 20 hours a week… and around 71% were working at their IM business part-time… But hang on, if the “dream” is to build an online fortune on auto-pilot, so you only have to work at it occasionally, then what’s going on with these figures??? Something just does not compute :)

Shouldn’t the vast majority of marketers be wealthy and only working 5 hours a week? Are we being lied to again by all the snake oil peddlers?

  • Finally… David asked how much you would be prepared to spend on a system that would make $5000 a month? Surprisingly, there were 140+ people (14%) who reckon they ought to get that magical solution for nothing! Really? Well I can probably understand why they might feel that way… with everyone and their dog advertising the latest this ‘n that, you do feel like you’ve always got your wallet out… but nothing?

I think David should’ve set a few different price ranges to respond to here, because $0 to $500 as the first step is a LOT of money to spend… If you are setting up this type of survey yourself, consider splits like 0-50, 50-99, 100-249, 250-499 and you might get a better indication of what people are really prepared to spend.

Overall, I was pleased to see there were lots of other people in a similar IM boat to the one I’m merrily sailing around in… even though that doesn’t offer me too much reassurance of the potential for future riches.
