My 10 Internet Marketing “Revolutions” For 2008 - Part 1
I’ve decided not to call them resolutions anymore. I want something a bit more definite! Something that makes a much stronger statement, which will have a bigger impact on my life.
It’s about time my Internet Marketing career had a bit of a revolution! It’s time for a change. It’s time to turn things around and stir it up a bit!
So 2008 is going to be the year that happens, and here are my Internet Marketing resolutions - sorry, revolutions - for the new year: (and NOT in any particular order… maybe learning to prioritise should probably be on this list too…)
- STOP seeking out information about Internet Marketing from all and sundry.
If you keep looking, you’ll always find another thousand different ways to do the same thing. And each expert you find is sure their way is best.
All that leads to is distraction, inaction and loss of motivation.
So I’m seeking out a couple of “secret mentors” to help me around this. I promise I won’t be stalking them… so don’t tell them. Shhh…
I’ve recently found a few people I’ll be keeping a close eye on in the new year.
One of them is Lee McIntyre, who I like because he’s new, reasonably successful, and he goes against all the “guru’s” advice with the development of his business. Good on you Lee!
Another is Courtney Tuttle, who’s Internet Marketing blog has a ‘through the roof’ Alexa rank (at 20,000) and he’s willing to give ME (and other aspiring bloggers) an opportunity to post on his site!
Another guy I like the sound of is Terry Dean… he’s always got some useful information at his blog.
They sound like the rebels I need to be in charge for this revolution!
And their first command…
- REDUCE the number of lists you are subscribed to!
Cut back on the amount of useless and mostly irrelevant information polluting your inbox!
My inbox currently has over 1800 messages in it… and when I get ruthless with it, I can trim it back to about half that. But it doesn’t take long to get back up over the four figure mark again.
So I have to take drastic action to limit the amount of stuff coming IN.
Start with the people that ONLY EVER send advertising and who don’t GIVE anything valuable to you. Kill ‘em off! Hit their unsubscribe link NOW!

- START taking precise ACTION with what I’m doing.
At the moment, one day just seems to blend into the next… doing the “same ole, same ole” and aimless drifting without achieving any “result” is also a de-motivator!
So that means when/if you purchase/download something you think will be useful, then DO SOMETHING WITH IT THEN! Don’t make the mistake of saving it, and then letting it to disappear into the bowels of your hard drive, never to be seen again.
When you download an item you want to promote or give away to your (prospective) customers, remember the workload that WILL be required to get it ready for distribution:
- editing sales letters and order links etc., and then installing on your server.
- writing a new autoresponder sequence for those new customers (I personally like to run different “lists” depending on the product purchased, so I can better tailor information and offers to that specific audience)
- checking everything, including delivery, to make it all work.

- Speaking of lists… and you might find this amazing for a “veteran” (I’ve been full-time on the ‘Net since 1995) but I actually DON’T have any sizeable list of any sort. I have ONLY just started collecting a few names and addresses from two products I’ve just started to give away.
So my next revolutionary idea is to BUILD MY LISTS because I keep getting reminded that the real money is to be made from the back-end sales that I can make to my “list”.
So each of my sites in 2008 will proudly display some sort of opt-in form on every page! And I will actively seek out and/or write useful “reports” that I can give away for free to encourage people to sign up.
But it’s NO good building these lists, unless I develop a plan of what I’m going to say to them! So another job will be to map out and plan a series of auto-responder topics I can write to communicate with my many new fans.
While I’m on that… I DO have around 15,000 names and addresses of people who have previously submitted their web sites to my various directories… so I need to actively work on converting as many of these people as I can onto a “list” so that I can start communicating with them.
- FINISH those projects I started that now just sit there not doing much at all.
There are a few web sites I set up during 2006/2007 that, as the John Farnham song goes “seemed like a good idea at the time”. So 2008 is gonna be their time!
And unless I get a REALLY great idea (
) I WON’T start any new projects or register any new domains… promise!
