Two IM Bigwigs + Killer Domain + Hungry Market = ??? CRAP!
Put two VERY well known Internet Marketing heavyweights together, mix in with an absolute killer of a domain name, discuss the one totally ESSENTIAL thing that absolutely EVERYONE needs to know (particularly newbies) to succeed online, and offer it for FREE?
What do you get?
Well… at first glance it seems to be what thousands of people are looking to answer all their list building questions. (Honestly, my first reaction was that it was gonna absolutely kill the info product I was working on… and I can’t reproduce here the four letter word I used at the time!!!)
It’s one of those squeeze pages I just HAD to optin to, so I could see what THIS was all about!!!
And you’ll have the same reaction too if you are even vaguely interested in building your list “correctly”!
That Is… Until You Get Inside…
And this is what REALLY ticks me off about this sort of thing…
These heavyweights have got everything “right” - they have the name, the reputation, the killer domain name, the technology… etc etc
And yet the blasted product is INCOMPLETE and UNPROFESSIONAL!
Sure… the video on the home page is pretty cool and full of promise… the pdf you get after opting in is like-wise…
But the “quickstart” page is (currently) a collection of videos on how to:
- buy a domain name
- get a hosting account
- set up your DNS
- setting up your auto responder
- get an HTML editor
- getting an FTP client
Now this is all useful stuff for newbies no doubt - except for the vital thing…
This is supposed to be all about LIST BUILDING!
Not one mention about THAT on the quickstart page, and honestly, I’d want to know a bit more about the whole MECHANICS of how list building works (from the viewpoint of these “experts”) BEFORE I went ahead and made ANY purchases of domain names, hosting, autoresponders etc etc etc.
The sequence presented by these “experts” totally sucks and does NOTHING to suggest to newbies the RIGHT way/process of doing things!
Can It Get Any Worse?
And then I’m directed to their “blog”…
WTF? A stock standard WordPress install? NO work done to it AT ALL - no fancy theme - no SEO modifications - even the default WP links… and they haven’t even bothered to change the default “About” page!
Come on guys…
You Have GOT To Be Kidding Me!!!
This is supposedly all about (to use your phrase) “Every List Building Trick Know To Man!” (sic) and yet you lead with these crappy and totally unprofessional examples?
This now doubt will be a product a lot of people will want to promote because of the “potential” it offers (I believe there IS an affiliate program ‘cos I found a signup form at Google).
Well let’s just say that ANYONE who promotes this product to their list with an affiliate link included - while the product is in such a shabby, incomplete state of affairs - well, they have absolutely NO regard to what is good for their subscribers!
Sure… there are “warnings” that the site is “new”… that they are “building” it and will have HEAPS of stuff added to it over the next few days, weeks, months etc…
But right now, there is nothing useful at all there!
This is a classic example for all those evangelists out there who say “Take Action”… “Do Something” etc… who keep saying it “doesn’t matter” if the product is incomplete, or not perfect… just “get it out there”…
A classic example of why you DON’T do that because you treat your market like crap if you do!
And if this is a good example of how to treat any existing subscribers that you sent to that page…. hmmm.
Oh hang on… maybe the whole thing is simply an excellent example of a listbuilding trick/squeeze page that works really well… so there IS something positive you can take out of this!
Sorry… Rant now TOTALLY over… If you’ve got any comments or thoughts on this type of behaviour, then I strongly encourage you to include them below!
Thanks
Stephen
P.S. I’m NOT going to tell you the “to die-for” domain name, but there are enough clues given above so you should be able to work it out!
P.P.S. Oh… don’t try to Google their “every trick” phrase included above… it doesn’t appear in Google - yet.
P.P.S. And if you have the time… please check out my new (but incomplete) site OnLine Marketing Fundamentals. While I’m no IM bigwig, I’ve been in the teaching and web design fields long enough to know a few tricks of my own
