Is Video Killing Your Conversions?
For the past two months I have been in dialup hell. And it’s confirmed a sneaking suspicion I’ve had that a lot of marketers using video to launch or promote their products are just not using it correctly! Specifically, where there’s little more than a 15-30 minute video on a squeeze page or as part of the follow-up sequence…
Look… just because you CAN do video easily these days, does not mean that you SHOULD do it… at least not exclusively!
I mean, really… do you HAVE to try to pre-sell me with multiple 90MB+ videos about your new wizz-bang, can’t-do-without product?
And just because your video might be set in some “exotic” location or feature you in a Ferrari, when it is really no more than poorly lit head-shots often with a totally crappy, and often almost inaudible commentary, is certainly NOT a good reason to use it!
And then have a plethora of JV partners send out multiple messages trying to get me to view all the different videos in the sequence…
Seriously… try this as a consumer at dialup speed!
You’ll quickly realise you are wasting some serious time just trying to sort through all the “noise”!
PLEASE… PLEASE… PLEASE… put some TEXT on these pages!
At the VERY least put a “synopsis” or list of bullet points UNDER the video so those of us who do NOT want to waste time, or bandwidth, can make a quicker decision about whether we really want to go any further.
This will ALSO help your “customers” recognise that they have already been referred to that page (probably by a different JV partner), and perhaps they may even be “reminded” that they wanted to take action… but just didn’t want to sit through another 30 minute E-grade production to “find” the elusive order link…
Oh… and here’s a video production tip or two for you
A DECENT video camera with good lighting, AND a professional microphone will help – a lot!
And then try to optimize the video so the overall file size is smaller so it loads faster… even your broadband visitors will notice the difference!
FYI : Why was I back on dialup speed? For the second half of each of the previous two months my ADSL speed has been shaped back from 1500k to 64k because I exceeded my 15GB download allowance… Blame it on my downloading a big product or two… or (preferably) blame my 17yo son for spending too much time at WOW!!! Either way, it’s a pain in the RSS trying to run an internet business at a snail’s pace!
